| | Newsletter for March 2009 | Business to Business vs. Business to Customer (B2B vs. B2C) | One area we evaluate in selecting a franchise for our franchise candidates is the focus of the business. Business to Business, B2B, are businesses focused on the needs of other businesses. Often these businesses are suppliers, consultants, or other service providers. Examples would be Sign Making Companies, Schooley Mitchell Telecom Communications Consultants and Employment Services. Business to Customer, B2C, are businesses that address the needs of the general public. These businesses may be retail, home based, or mobile and would include hair salons, restaurants, maid services as well as window and floor coverings. Often businesses may address the needs of both the public and other businesses. Examples would be cartridge refill centers, pack and ship as well as handyman services. As we focus on these businesses, we evaluate the hours of operation as well as startup costs. Our candidates are matched based on the amount of time they wish to put into their business each week. For example, a family with children who wish to spend free time with their children during the evenings and weekends will be better suited for franchises that are open during weekdays and meet the needs of business customers. In addition, a home based business may be ideal to allow flexibility in meeting the needs of small children. Often, those interested in franchises first think of fast food. As we are exposed to fast food franchises day to day and we often frequent them. Though there may be substantial income potential, the high startup cost, overhead and reliance on minimum wage employees requires a higher degree of management responsibilities. During the startup phase, this often means seven day weeks and long hour days. I would not recommend a restaurant for anyone unless they have had previous experience or they have a management team to put into place. I admit, I am partial to businesses that meet the needs of business owners. They often have lower startup costs, little or no inventory requirements and can be operated on a five day rather than a seven day work week. Helping you to select a franchise that best meets your goals and abilities is what we do best. You really can't afford to take advantage of our free services. I invite you to call me and together we can select a franchise that best matches your goals, aspirations and lifestyle. | Featured New Franchises | | Johnnie is passionate about three things; eating hot dogs, traveling, and being with friends and family. That use to be a key consideration when looking for an employer. That is one of the reasons I worked for Hewlett-Packard for more than 12 years. Other companies paid more, but they did not offer "job security" like HP did. Then in 2000 that changed and HP became just like any other employer. The fact is, the only job security you have is based on the skills you can use to either help a | | business make money or save money. Starting a business is something that one should only consider after doing their homework and evaluating the plusses and minuses. The biggest plus as a business owner is you have greater control over your destiny. A business also has value and can contribute to overall net worth and can contribute to one's future retirement. If you know someone worried about their job going away, or may have already lost a job, have them call me and I am confident that together we will find a franchise or business opportunity that may just meet his/her needs better than their old "job" ever could! |
